In 1995, Eric Dawicki, USMM Third Mate and Ship Management Consultant, and Angela Dawicki took ownership of Northeast Maritime. In 1996, the school changed its name to Northeast Maritime Institute (NMI) and relocated to New Bedford, MA.
In 2001 the Institute moved to Fairhaven, Massachusetts, in an award winning restored historic Federal style building.
In the last thirty years Northeast Maritime Institute has grown into one of the largest privately held maritime education facilities in the United States. The institute has educated thousands of mariner students at all levels of U.S. Coast Guard licenses and documentation. Northeast Maritime Institute prides itself in being one of the forerunners in Maritime Education and Training.
